Volunteer Opportunities

There are several ways volunteers can get involved.

Driver

Description: Would you like the opportunity to brighten an elderly person's day? You can do so by volunteering to be a driver of a specially adapted minibus that transports them to and from Kenilworth Community Care.

Tasks: As a volunteer driver, you would drive a local route starting at 9:00 a.m. and collect approximately 12 elderly people from their homes and take them to Kenilworth Community Care. The route takes around 2 hours and an employee of Kenilworth Community Care will always accompany you. In addition to driving, you will help open the door of the van and help with the lift equipment. You will also drive the afternoon route to return the individuals to their homes starting at 3:00 p.m.

Training & Support: All volunteer drivers are given training on the vehicle. You will be shown how everything on the minibus operates to ensure the safety and comfort of the passengers. You will be given a minor test including an informal driving assessment. If desired, you may complete a first-aid training.

Time Commitment: It is expected that a volunteer driver will drive both the day's morning and afternoon drives, although the time between the two drives is free. It is also expected that a driver will commit to between one day a week and one day a month.

Skills Needed: A clean UK licence is required. You will need to be able to push a wheelchair and be able to get it into and out of the van. A helpful, friendly and cheerful disposition is also needed.

Training & Support: All volunteers are shown around the facility and introduced to the staff and the clients.

Time Commitment: Befrienders will spend one or more hours with the clients once a week or fortnight, either in the morning at 10:30 or in the afternoon at 2:30

Skills Needed: Friendliness, compassion, patience, and an understanding of the various needs of the elderly.

Donations, Bequests and more

This is a really exciting opportunity to be a supporter of Waverley! With funding from the local authority diminishing, Waverley is increasingly dependent on funds raised by its supporters to help provide for activities for older people who use Waverley's services. There's a huge variety of ways in which you can support us including:

  • take part in one of our events, such as our quiz evenings or our annual street collection
  • organise your own event, such as a concert, a coffee morning or a collection in lieu of presents for a special occasion
  • sponsor someone to take part in a challenge event in aid of Waverley, such as the Two Castles Run
  • take part yourself in a challenge event, such as a parachute jump - to make this easy for you, we're registered with BT's donation website
  • leave Waverley a bequest in your Will or arrange for an In Memorium gift.

We'd love to welcome you as one of our supporters. Just call Anne Cross on 01926 852365, email waverley@keepitgood.com or send us a message via our contact form.
